Nearest school, best school

Image
During our team discussion, we explored the topic of whether the nearest school is the best school, which was also known as the "Langama Pasala Hondama Pasala" project . This project aimed to evaluate the quality of education provided by the nearest schools to students in rural areas of Sri Lanka.   We discussed how this project highlighted the importance of assessing the quality of education provided by schools rather than simply relying on proximity. While it may be convenient for students to attend the nearest school, the quality of education provided by that school may not be up to par. We also discussed how this could impact the future prospects of these students, especially when it comes to higher education and job opportunities.   Furthermore, we talked about how the project also brought to light the challenges faced by rural schools, such as lack of resources and qualified teachers. This highlights the need for greater investment in education infrastructure an...

Smart thinking

Image
Smart thinking involves using critical thinking skills to approach problems and make decisions. It includes reasoning, evaluating arguments, identifying claims and evidence, and considering the social dimension of a situation.   Reasoning is an important aspect of smart thinking. It involves the ability to analyze information, identify patterns and connections, and draw logical conclusions. Effective reasoning involves being aware of biases and assumptions, considering alternative perspectives, and evaluating the evidence available.   Evaluating arguments is also critical to smart thinking. It involves analyzing the reasoning and evidence used to support a claim, and assessing whether it is valid and sound. This requires identifying the premises and conclusions of an argument, evaluating the strength of the evidence presented, and considering any counterarguments or objections that may arise.   Identifying claims and evidence is another key skill in smart thin...

What happened to Sri Lanka cricket

Image
During a recent team discussion, we examined the decline of Sri Lanka Cricket and identified various factors contributing to the issue. One significant issue we discussed was the lack of effective management within the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. There have been frequent changes in the Board's leadership over the years, which has resulted in a lack of continuity and a failure to implement long-term strategies for the development of the sport. This has led to a lack of funding and resources for Sri Lanka Cricket, resulting in a decline in the quality of cricket played at both domestic and international levels. Another factor that we identified was the lack of dedication from players towards their craft. This was highlighted by incidents of players choosing to play in domestic leagues for financial gain instead of representing Sri Lanka in international cricket tournaments. We discussed how this attitude is detrimental to the development of cricket in Sri Lanka and how players should ...

Know you and the other

Image
Knowing yourself and your team is an important aspect of building strong relationships and effective communication. In his book "Surrounded by Idiots," Thomas Erikson discusses the four different behavior types: Reds, Yellows, Greens, and Blues. Understanding these behavior types can help individuals better communicate and work with others.   Reds are known for their directness, action-oriented mindset, and competitive nature. They often make quick decisions and take risks, but can also be confrontational and insensitive. Yellows are social, expressive, and enthusiastic. They thrive on interaction with others and are great at networking, but may struggle with following through on commitments and being too optimistic.   Greens are empathetic, supportive, and prioritize relationships over tasks. They excel at listening and building connections, but may struggle with making tough decisions and holding others accountable. Blues, like myself, are analytical, precise, ...

What is your opinion about the current tax rate in Sri Lanka?

Image
Our team recently had a productive discussion on Sri Lanka's current tax rates. Many different opinions were expressed and team members offered different perspectives on the subject. Some team members felt that current tax rates were too high and hindered economic growth, while others felt they needed funding for basic services and infrastructure. . We also discussed the potential impact of tax rates on individuals, small businesses and large corporations, and the potential consequences of lowering or raising tax rates.   As the discussion progressed, group members presented various suggestions and solutions. Some have proposed an overhaul of the entire tax system, while others have suggested more targeted tax breaks for specific industries or groups. We also discussed the importance of transparency and accountability in the tax system, with some members of the group calling for greater oversight and control of tax revenue and expenditure.   In summary, although our g...

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is a skill that everyone should have. It helps us to analyze information, question assumptions, and make informed decisions. Critical thinking can also improve our creativity, communication, and collaboration. By practicing critical thinking, we can become more confident, curious, and open-minded learners.   Active listening, curiosity, discipline, and humility are just a few of the essential qualities that go into critical thinking.
